TWO GOLD MINERS PERISHED IN A GOLD MINING PIT MISHAP IN THE KUMUNG KUMUNG BACKDAM
Two Gold Miners : Troy Scott, a 44-Years-old Male Resident of Linden Town, and Seon Martin, a 32-Years -old Male Resident of Lethem Town,
unfortunately perished in a Gold Mining Pit Mishap that occurred on Friday,July 22nd, 2022 at around 15:30 Hours in the Kumung Kumung Backdam, Mazaruni Gold Mining District Number Three,Region Seven.
Investigations conducted by the Regional Police Division Number Seven has thus far, revealed that the Two deceased Men : Seon Martin, the General Manager for the Gold Mining Operation, was operating the Jetting Hose, while Troy Scott was operating the Marrock Hose in the almost 8 Meters deep Mining-Pit, when the Land around the Mining Pit suddenly “caved-in”, trapping them beneath.
Fortunately the other Workers who were also in the Mining Pit, were able to escape unhurt. They then managed to retrieve the lifeless bodies of Seon, and Troy from beneath the overburden.
The bodies were then transported out from the Kumung Kumung Backdam to the Bartica Regional Public Hospital on Saturday, July 23rd,2022, where on arrival there, an examination was conducted on them by Medical Personnel on Duty , they observed multiple abrasions on them before pronouncing both of them dead.
The bodies were then escorted to the Memorial Funeral Parlor, located in the Georgetown City for a Post Mortem Examination.
The Police Investigations into the circumstances surrounding this occurrence are still in progress.
For the Year thus far, there have been Several mining Pit fatalities,One of the most recent was at Micobie in Region Eight which led to the death of 64-Years-old Miner and Businessman, Donald Gouveia. It was reported that Gouveia and Three others were working in a mining Pit which is about 60 Feet in Diameter and 70 Feet in depth when One of the Walls caved in and covered him.
Also in June, 23-Years-old Akeem Khan of Lot 37 Old Housing Scheme, Bartica Town, was killed after he was covered in Slush when the Walls of the mining Pit he was working in collapsed at Sand Hill Backdam, Cuyuni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
It was reported that at the time of the Incident, Khan was jetting in his mining Pit with a 25-Years-old Employee when the Walls of the Pit began to cave in.
