‘NO NEED FOR RESTRICTIONS’ – PRESIDENT ALI

‘NO NEED FOR RESTRICTIONS’ – PRESIDENT ALI says after First Monkey Pox Case confirmed.

Guyana confirmed it’s First Monkeypox Case on Monday,August 22nd,2022 and President Dr. Irfaan Ali says that the Government has the necessary Systems already in place and as such, there is no need for any imposed Public Restrictions now.

The Head of State, speaking at the Sidelines of an Event in Wakenaam, reminded the Country that the Monkeypox Virus is not easily transmitted.

With the Virus detected in a 57-Years-old Resident of Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica), he said that Man’s Family Members will be tested and isolated. Other Contact tracings will be done.

The President was, however, asked if the confirmation of this Case will prompt new Restrictions similar to those instituted to curtail the spread of COVID-19.

He responded: “No, absolutely not.

“You don’t need any Restrictions for this, what you need is responsibility.”

Earlier, Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony explained that it is only transmitted through close contact.

Meanwhile, as had been announced by Dr. Anthony previously, President Ali said that Guyana already ordered a small Number of Monkeypox Vaccines.

These Vaccines alongside the testing and isolation Measures already instituted, will help local Health Authorities to control the spread of the Virus, according to the President.
