ALL SAFE AFTER BOAT SANK IN THE ESSEQUIBO RIVER
A Speedboat transporting some 20 Passengers including local Athletes, sank in the Essequibo River on Monday,October 17th,2022 just after Midday.
Reports are indicating that the Athletes onboard were enroute to their Destination which is located in Region One, after participating in the Heritage Games, hosted over the past Weekend, in the Georgetown City.
The Boat at the said time, was part of a Fleet of Boats that were journeying to the Supernaam Port from the Parika Port, when the Captains of the other Boats, reportedly noticed the said Boat in distress at the Troolie Island Area, and promptly proceeded towards it, where they were able to rescue all onboard.
A Passenger who was onboard the Boat that sunk, subsequently related to the Media, Water had initially entered into the Boat from the bottom, and considered it fortunate to have not sustained any physical injury during the unpleasant Incident, even though, being a bit ” shaken up” after it.
An Investigation into the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate Incident, have been launched by the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD), and the Ministry of Public Works.
