EARLY MORNING FIRE CONTAINED AT GUYANA STORES LIMITED IN GEORGETOWN
The survival of One of Guyana’s oldest, and largest Retail Department Enterprises – Guyana Stores Limited – was in the wee Hours of this Morning Wednesday,October 19th,2022, threatened by Fire.
Firefighters eventually succeeded in bringing the Fire under control, after Hours of battling the Blaze, this Morning which had engulfed the upper Flat, at a Section of the Building, that is closer to Main Street, Georgetown City.
The Report of the Fire was received between 01: 00Hrs., to 02: 00Hrs. Several Fire Tenders from Stations in the City subsequently responded, and the Servicemen and Women, promptly jumped into firefighting Mode, and were eventually able to contain the Fire.
It is unclear however to this moment in time, what is the formal proximate cause of the Fire, but Fire Chief (ag) Mr. Gregory Wickham said, that Several Pockets of Fire were initially discovered at the Scene.
The Guyana Stores Limited (GSL) was incorporated in 1976 as a State-owned Enterprise, to acquire the Business and Assets, of the Booker Group of Companies.
GSL later became the largest Retailer in Guyana, with a reputation for the provision of high-quality Goods and Services, at competitive Prices, particularly during the period of the 1980s to the late 1990s, where it further established itself as a reknown Marketplace, in the Capital City of Georgetown, with Guyana Stores Limited Decades-old History, it is more than just an ordinary Shopping Center.
