BARTICAN LASS IS THE 2022 VALEDICTORIAN FOR PRESIDENT COLLEGE
President’s College on Wednesday, October 2nd,2022 hosted their Graduation Ceremony at their Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara Venue, for a Batch of 97 Graduates who successfully wrote this Year’s Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC), and the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency (CAPE) Examinations.
18 Years old Ms Zahra Knights, Daughter of Barticans Mr Hilbert and Mrs. Anastasia Roberts Knights, is this Year’s best graduating Student of President’s College, she recieved the President’s Award for Excellence that was presented to her during this Ceremony by Dr. Frank Anthony, on behalf of His Excellency, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, the President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. The Students were also recognized and awarded, for their outstanding performances by the Minister of Health, on behalf of the President of the Corporative Republic of Guyana, H.E Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali.
Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony also delivered the Feature Address to the Graduates, and encouraged them to continue studying, especially in the Science Field, since the Ministry of Health (MOH) is partnering with other Agencies to integrate in-depth Science Programs, and will need Scientists to pioneer these Programmes. He added that the Ministry will soon be launching Programmes that will sustain the development of Stem Cell Therapy, and Regenerative Cell Therapy.
Dr Frank Anthony also urged the Students to think about going into the University whether locally, or abroad, so that they can continue with their Education, for he would like to see from this cohort, many People getting their Masters, PhDs, and many People becoming Pioneers in these new Fields that he was making mention of.
The Health Minister also informed too that, recently a Bill was tabled in the National Assembly, which allows for transplants to be performed in Guyana. This he stated has been a successful journey thus far, where to date, Guyana has completed over 100 Cornea transplants, and very soon an Eye Bank will be established in Guyana, and this Initiative will enable People to donate their Corneas. The Minister further stated that Guyana’s National Reference Laboratory located in Georgetown, is also now equipped to perform sequencing with the Malaria Parasites,and Authorities are also exploring the option of converting the sequencing Machine, to One that performs sequencing for the COVID-19 Virus, which will help in ascertaining which Variant is circulating.
Among those present at the Graduation Ceremony also, were Regional Chairman for Region Four, Mr Daniel Seeram; Attorney-at-law, Dr Kim Kyte-Thomas; Representative from the Board of Governors, Mr Omadatt Chandan; PTA Chairman, Mr Wilfred Collins; Ms Sandra Persaud, Representative from the ACEO Secondary, and other Officials from the President’s College.
The President’s College houses Students from every Region of Guyana, in a setting that supports each Learner’s holistic development, and also provides them a unique opportunity for interaction, towards them learning about the cultures from the various ethnographic, and geographic backgrounds. In addition to the Students engaging in quality academic experiences, and exciting extracurricular activities, the Students at President’s College are also taught important Life Skills including Independence, Management, and Organization.
