Two Persons, Terrence Thomas a 29-Years-old Land Surveyor of Lot 140 Meadow Brook Gardens, Georgetown, and Jermain La Rose, a 34-Years-old Land Surveyor of Lot 34 Canvas City Wismar, Linden Town, are both now missing.

The Men were reportedly onboard a Boat on Thursday, November 10th, 2022, in the Mazaruni River, when at around 04:00Hrs., Water started to enter into the Vessel, which eventually sunk in the Mazaruni River around the Imbaimadai Area, Upper Mazaruni, Region Seven.

Police Reports have stated that on November 9th, 2022 at about 17:30 Hrs., 32-Years-old Romell Ramlakhan, a Mines Officer in Charge of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission Outpost at the Imbaimadai Landing,Upper Mazaruni, Region Seven, returned from a Field Trip at Kamarang Landing along with 39-Years-old Sherwin Wilson, a Labourer of Lot 36 Nelson Street, Mocha Village, East Bank Demerara, and 46-Years-old Romain Reece, an unlicensed Boat Captain of Lot 25, Imbaimadai Landing,Upper Mazaruni, Region Seven.

According to Ramlakhan, he was on his way to the GGMC Station, when Thomas and La Rose approached him, on the Imbaimadai Airstrip, where they related, that they had arrived on the Imbaimadai Landing, on November 9th, 2022 to do work, but did not elaborate on same.

Police Information further revealed that La Rose requested to be accommodated at the GGMC Quarters to which Ramlakhan agreed since he was a former Employee. However, on November 10th, 2022 at about 03:00 Hrs., Ramlakhan noted, that he observed La Rose and Thomas preparing for their Journey, to which he insisted that they wait for Daylight.

However, Thomas declined, noting the lengthy Journey, Ramlakhan then dropped them on the Hill by the Riverside, on an All-Terrain Vehicle,ATV., then returned to the GGMC Station, Imbaimadai.

According to Romain Reece, about 04:00 Hours he along with La Rose, Thomas and Wilson boarded a Metal Boat, Property of Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), and headed for Kako Village, Upper Mazaruni Region 7, along with approximately 40 Gallons of Fuel, and 10 Signs to be erected at the Mining Claim they were going to survey.

Some Two Minutes into their Journey, whiles the Captain was trying to “plane off” the Boat, the Boat began to take in Water, as a result, Thomas and La Rose panicked, and jumped overboard causing the Boat to take in Water, and eventually sank.

Due to that, the Occupants then attempted to swim to safety by holding on to Fuel Tanks, but, upon reaching the River Bank, Reece discovered that Thomas and La Rose were missing, and Wilson a few Feet away. Subsequent to that, an Alarm was raised, and the Police were notified. A Search Party was then mobilized, where a Search is currently ongoing.

It was also revealed that none of the Occupants onboard the Boat were wearing Life Jackets at the time of the Mishap, and that Mines Officer (Ramlakhan) did not have any knowledge, or authorize anyone to use the GGMC Boat, and Engine.

Romain Reece is currently in custody assisting with Investigations.
Several Fuel Tanks which were onboard the Boat were recovered about 3 Miles from the Scene.

Police Investigations are ongoing.
