REGION SEVEN HOSTED ITS REMEMBERANCE DAY 2022 COMEMMORATION CEREMONY IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF BARTICA

The Regional Administration of Region Seven hosted this Year’s Rememberance Day Ceremony on Sunday November 13th,2022 in the Municipality of Bartica, Region Seven, at the Cenotaph Square Venue , First Avenue, and Third Street, Bartica Town, Region Seven.

The Ceremony paid homage to the fallen World War l and ll Heroes, and commenced at around 07:00 Hrs., with the arrival of the Regional Chairman for Region 7, Cuyuni/
Mazaruni, Mr. Kenneth Williams, who was met by the most Senior Officer of the Discipline Services Contingent present, with Mr. Kerwin Warde, the Regional Executive Officer for Region Seven.

A short Parade along First Avenue, Bartica Town, was then undertaken by a Contingent of the Discipline Services, afterwhich they stood ” in Line” , in an Eastern Position facing the Cenotaph,

where the Ceremony then commenced with the reciting of the National Pledge,that was followed by the sounding of the last Post, and then a Two Minutes Silence was observed by all in attendance, who were guided to simultaneously have in their reflective thoughts:

“In remembrance of those who made the great Sacrifice. O GOD, make us better Men and Women, and give us continued Peace in our time”

The conclusion of this period of “SILENCE” was marked by
the ‘REVEILLE’ – Signal of the Drum.

The Regional Chairman then recited these Words :-

‘We are met together to remember before GOD all those who, in
Two World Wars, gaved their Lives for Others, with them we commemorate all who, in those Wars, or in other Battles as well as War for Peace , gaved their Health, Strength, and suffered Pain of the Body or of Mind, and sacrificed themselves for the good of the World, and particularly we remember, and commend to GOD all those who today fight for the Peace of the World, and
the greater happiness of it’s People.
We pray that this National Service may unite us all in the Pious Duty as Christians, Hindus and Muslims.
I ask that we be led in Prayers.”

The Order of Prayers was then undertaken with Prayers being conducted by a Representative of the Christian Community, then Prayers being done by a Representative of the Hindu Community, and then all Glory and Honour being given to GOD the Creator,most Merciful and Beneficient, by a Representative of the Muslim Community for the Municipality of Bartica,Region Seven.

The Profile of the deceased Veterans with ties to Region Seven was then delivered :-

NOLAN POLLARD, deceased, was a Veteran of World War II – having served from 1944 to 1947. He received training at the Empire Air Navigation School, Great Britain, and rosed to
the Rank of Leading Aircraftman. Mr. Pollard received Two Medals of Services.

RUFUS JOYCE, deceased, was a Veteran of World War II. He was an Artillery Gunner, having served in the War from 1939 to 1944. He was based, between England to British Columbia, after leaving British Guiana, on
HMS CALCUTTA. He returned Home on the HMS DUNDEE. He received a Medal for War Services.

JOHN WARD, deceased, was a Veteran of World War II. He was a Base Security Officer, having served in the War from 1939 to 1944. He was based in Great Britain. He received
Three Medals of Services.

Thereafter Wreaths were placed at the Base of the Cenotaph in the following Order:-

  2. Mayor of Bartica Town
  3. Regional Executive Officer
  4. Prime Ministerial Representative
  5. Guyana Police Force
  6. Guyana Defence Force
  7. Guyana People Militia
  8. Guyana Prison Service
  9. Guyana Fire Service
  10. Regional Education Officer
  11. Regional Health Officer
  12. Relative of Noland Pollard
  13. Relative of Rufus Joyce
  14. Relative of John Ward
  15. Others

When this Segment was completed there was the singing of the Hymn : – “O God Our Help In Ages Past”, with the Ceremony then being concluded, with the singing of the National Anthem,

March Pass Salute being given to Region Seven’s Officials by the Discipline Services Contingent Parading along First Avenue, Bartica Town, Region Seven.

a March Pass Parade on First Avenue, Bartica Town, was then undertaken by the Contingent of Discipline Services in attendance, with the March Pass Salute being given to the Regional Officials present,afterwhich the Parade’s Contingent dispersed, signalling the Conclusion of Region Seven’s Remembrance Day 2022 Ceremonial Observances.

At the end of World War II in 1945, ‘Armistice Day’ was renamed Remembrance Day, or Remembrance Sunday, and is observed on the First or Second Sunday in the Month of November. The Poppies usually worn by Persons on this commemorative Occassion, represents the Sacrifices of the Soldiers, and Auxiliaries in the Fields who fought in the Two Great Wars : (1914- 1918) and (1939 – 1945). The Poppies also signifies that those fallen Heroes, are not forgotten. #LestWeForget
