TWO BRAZILIANS MISSING AFTER BOAT MISHAP AROUND THE LOOKING GLASS RAPIDS AREA MAZARUNI RIVER
Two Male Brazilian Nationals are now reportedly missing following a Boat mishap in the vicinity of the
Looking Glass Rapids Area in the Mazaruni River, at around 08:10Hrs., on Sunday, December 10th, 2022.The missing foreign Nationals were so far identified only as ‘Japão’ and ‘Bartholomew’.
The Wooden Passengers Boat was being powered by Two 225Hp Outboard Engines, and was being piloted by certified and competent Steersman Mr. Assardo Adrian Savory of Five Miles Housing Scheme, Bartica Town,Region Seven. He was being assisted by 21 Years old Dillon Perreira of 1421 Parika, East Bank Essequibo, onboard the Vessel too also at the time of the mishap, were 61 Years old Male Brazilian Jose Carlos dos Santos also known as “Carlino” a Draga Operator who hails from the City of Boa Vista, Roraima State, North Brazil and Juarez de Moraes, also known as “Junior ” a Dredge Owner and Gold Miner of Providence, East Bank Demerara, and the other Two, now missing Male Brazilians, so far only identified as ‘Japão’ and ‘Bartholomew’.
The Vessel departed the Bartica Town’s Port at around 06:00Hrs., on Sunday, December 11th,2022 destined for the Kurupung Landing Mazaruni River when at around 08:10 Hours whiles traversing the treacherous Waters of the ” Looking Glass Rapids “, the Boat’s front Section was shattered after colliding into a series of Water Waves, with numerous strong Turn Tides, throwing all overboard into the treacherous Waters of the ” Looking Glass Rapids”.
Steersman Mr. Savory subsequently reported to the Police that whilst navigating the treacherous Waters in the vicinity of the Looking Glass Rapids, the Boat came in contact with a strong Wave which broke the Bow of the Boat, and tossed everyone overboard. It was during this Mishap that the Two Brazilians disappeared while the others managed to swim to safety, and were rescued Hours later by another passing Boat, where efforts were then made to locate the missing Men, but this has so far proven futile.The Search was suspended on Sunday last owning to fading Daylight, and the time to return to Port Bartica Town.The Survivors of this River Mishap then travelled out to Bartica Town and reported the Occurrence at the Bartica Town’s Police Station, and they were subsequently taken to the Bartica Town’s Regional Public Hospital where they were Medically attended to and examined , all are reportedly in good Health Condition.
The Steersman of the Boat and his Assistant are currently assisting the Police with their Investigations further into the circumstances surrounding this occurrence.
Today Monday , December 12th,2022 a Team of Policemen and MARAD Officials from Bartica Town are continuing with search exercises around the “Looking Glass Rapids ” Area to located the Missing Men.
