THE SEARCH CONTINUES AROUND THE LOOKING GLASS RAPIDS IN THE MAZARUNI RIVER FOR MISSING BRAZILIAN
Two Male Brazilian Nationals were on Sunday, December 10th,2022 reported missing following a River Mishap with a Boat in the vicinity of the Looking Glass Rapids Area of the Mazaruni River, at around 08:10Hrs.The men were subsequently identified only as ‘Japão’ and ‘Bartholomew’.
Steersman for the said Vessel Mr. Assardo Adrian Savory a Resident of the Five Miles Housing Scheme Area, Bartica Town,Region Seven, subsequently reported to the Police, that whilst navigating the treacherous Waters in the vicinity of the Looking Glass Rapids, the Boat came in contact with a strong Wave that broke the front section of the Boat, and tossed everyone overboard into the treacherous Waters of the Looking Glass Rapids, Mazaruni River, Region Seven. It was during this Mishap that the Two Brazilians disappeared while the others that were onboard the Vessel, managed to swim to safety, they were rescued Hours later, by another passing Boat.
A Search around the Area of the River Mishap was then undertaken by a Team of Policemen from the Regional Police Division Number Seven, and Officials from the Bartica Town’s MARAD Chapter, from the period surrounding the occurrence of that River Mishap, to this moment in time, Friday, December 16th,2022. So far, the Search on Wednesday,December 14th,2022, resulted in the recovery of one Corpse, accounting for one of the two missing Brazilian men, identification is still yet to be confirmed.On Wednesday last that Corpse was transported out to Bartica Town from the Mazaruni River, and then to Parika enroute to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, and Crematorium, in Georgetown for storage. The Search continues for the other missing Brazilian Man.
In the meantime the Steersman of the Boat, and his Assistant are assisting the Police, and MARAD, with their Investigations further into the circumstances surrounding this occurrence.
