REGION TEN ROAD SAFETY COUNCIL RESUSCITATED

Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Mr. Robeson Benn; Deputy Commissioner ‘Operations’ (ag), Mr Ravindradat Budhram; Traffic Officer Superintendent Mr. Dennis Stephen, along with Members of the Guyana National Road Safety Council on Wednesday, January 18th, 2023 in a coordinated effort with the Commander of Regional Police Division #10, Senior Superintendent Mr. Hugh Winter and his Team, hosted a resuscitation Ceremony for the Road Safety Council at the Praise Tabernacle, A.O.G Church Venue, in the Watooka Ward of Linden Town, Region Ten.

A new Executive Council for the Region Ten Road Safety Council were elected through a democratic Process during the Ceremony which identified young and vibrant Members, who by Profession are Teachers, Nurses, Doctors, Engineers along with key Community Members. These Individuals are all familiar with Roadway Issues, and also possesses the potential and capabilities, to procreate the necessary Road Safety Programs, and Solutions, towards maintaining the appreciated Levels of Road Safety in general, on the Roadways of Linden Town, Region Ten.

Those elected to serve on the Road Safety Council of Region Ten are as follows :-

Chairman – Isreal La Rose;
Vice-Chairman – Rawle Sealey; Secretary – Allayan Munroe;
Treasurer – Onita Harry;
Assistant Treasurer – Tonya McBeth; Assistant Secretary – Celina London; Roadworks Coordinator – Jalani Chapman;
Advisors: Vernon Todd, Michael Marks.
Public Relations Officer – Coretta Walton.
Committee Members are – Troy Brummell, Safrea Grenvielle, Ronetta Fraser, Desmond Peters, Siani Paul, Makeza Sampson, Norvell Fredericks, and Samatha Brown.

Minister of Home Affairs Mr. Robeson Benn, then delivered the Charge to the newly appointed Council, and encouraged the Members to work closely with the Police Force towards bringing about a dramatic improvement in the order of Road/Traffic Management towards reducing Accidents and deaths. He also encouraged the Council to proactively sensitise the Public about general Road Safety in the Region.

Deputy Commissioner for ‘Operations’ Mr Ravindradat Budhram, also then encouraged the Council to submit their Plans, and requisitions for Road Safety Equipment. Mr Budhram also encouraged the Council to collaborate with the Police, and visit Schools in Region 10 to sensitise the Students about Road Safety.

Deputy Commissioner Budhram also highlighted that to further assist the Council, and the Police in the Region, more Vehicles and Cycles, will be provided to aid in Traffic Control.

Also providing brief Remarks was the GPF’s Traffic Officer, Superintendent Mr. Dennis Stephen, who highlighted that the Traffic Department is challenged to manage Traffic; and to make the Roadways safer from Accidents, and loss of Life.
Mr Stephen further pointed out that the collaboration between the Police and the Guyana National Road Safety Council (GNRSC) is of paramount importance.

Coordinator of the GNRSC, Ms. Ramona Doorgen, then noted that the collaboration between the Two Organisations would integrate Regions actively, to also be involved in the implementation of Road Safety Measures, she also encouraged the Council to submit their Plans, so that the Government, and other Stakeholders can boost their objective focus towards maintaining appreciative control of Road Safety.

Regional Chairman of Region Ten Mr. Deron Adams, commended Minister Benn, and the GPF along with GNRSC for resuscitating the Council, since Road Safety is recognized as an important concern to everyone. Mr.Adams guaranteed on his unwavering support to the Council, the GNRSC., and the Guyana Police Force, GPF., regarding the maintenance of safer Roadways in the Municipality of Linden, Region Ten.
