News Room Guyana — A shooting Incident occurred around 21:30 Hrs., on Wednesday Night,November 27th,2024, in the Sophia Ward, of the Capital City of Georgetown, resulting in a Man being shot by Police Ranks after allegedly pulling a Gun during a Domestic Violence Intervention, resisting arrest.

According to initial Reports, Two Police Ranks, a Corporal, and a Constable, were on Mobile Patrol when they received a Call for assistance from Turkeyen Police Station in relation to a Domestic Violence Complaint.In response the Police Ranks encountered the Victim, and Complainant , an 18 Years old Sales Representative from ‘E’ Field Sophia Ward, in the Capital City of Georgetown, who had accused her 25 Years old Boyfriend, Quincy Morris, of assaulting her. The Police Ranks then reportedly accompanied the Victim to Morris’ Residence, where they were informed by his Sisters that he was not at Home. However, as the Police Ranks were leaving the Premises, Morris was spotted approaching the House with approximately 20 other Men.

The Police then reportedly approached Morris, and informed him of the Domestic Violence Allegations, however when they attempted to arrest him, Morris resisted, and reportedly told them, “I am not going anywhere… this is Sophia,” at this point, Morris allegedly pulled a Handgun from his Waistband, and pointed it at the Police Ranks, in response, One of the Police Ranks drew his Service Weapon, and fired a Single Shot, striking Morris in the Upper Thigh. The Suspect collapsed to the Ground, but the situation escalated, where the Group of Men surrounded the Police Ranks causing further chaos, during which One of them retrieved the Firearm from Morris, and fled the Scene.

The Police Ranks then contacted the Police Operations Room for “Backup”, and Morris was taken into custody. He was subsequently transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital for Medical Attention, and treatment for a Gunshot Wound. His condition however is listed as stable, and he is currently under Police Guard, as the Police Investigations are ongoing, where so far, Several Individuals have been questioned in relation to the Circumstances surrounding this Occurrence.
